DTEK – Ukraine 

DTEK Group is a diversified energy holding with six diverse businesses and Academy DTEK. DTEK Group enterprises produce electricity at solar, wind and thermal power plants; mine natural gas and coal; trade energy resources on Ukrainian and foreign markets; distribute electricity and manage power grids infrastructure; supply consumers with electricity; offer energy efficient solutions; and expand a network of fast charging stations for electric vehicles. DTEK Group companies employ over 60,000 people. 

  

Iberdrola – Spain 

Iberdrola’s startup programme – PERSEO – aims to facilitate the group’s access to the technologies of the future while fostering the development of a global ecosystem of startups in the electricity sector with a focus on sustainability. Iberdrola has €200 million for this purpose, invested through its portfolio of investments in startups, its PERSEO Venture Builder unit, pilot projects, the launch of the Iberdrola Startup Challenge and the Andromeda fund for investments in sustainable technologies. 

 

Vattenfall – Sweden 

Vattenfall is one of Europe’s largest producers and retailers of electricity and heat. Vattenfall’s main markets are Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and the UK. The Vattenfall Group has approximately 20,000 employees. The parent company, Vattenfall AB, is 100% owned by the Swedish state, and its headquarters are in Solna, Sweden. For more than 100 years they have electrified industries, supplied energy to people’s homes and modernised our way of living through innovation and cooperation. They are working for fossil freedom. Therefore, they are driving the transition to a more sustainable energy system through growth in renewable production and climate smart energy solutions for their customers. With regard to wind energy, Vattenfall is well underway with the growth plan of quadrupling this renewable capacity by 2030. Today, Vattenfall is operating more than 1,300 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of approximately 6.1 GW across five countries in Europe.

Ariadna Smart IoT Platform is the most comprehensive solution for Low Voltage (LV) network management in Distribution System Operators (DSOs). With a 360-degree view, it incorporates all the necessary elements to monitor LV grids in a single platform, supporting network management, supervision, maintenance, and planning operations. Robust and secure, developed with the vision to support all existing and future digital elements in the LV Network.

Breeze Technologies

Breeze Technologies is a technology leader for air quality sensors, air quality data and clean air action intelligence. The company leverages the internet of things and artificial intelligence to help cities and businesses create better clean air action plans and a more liveable environment. Breeze Technologies was founded in 2015 and has been recognised as one of the most promising European startups in the European Parliament. Breeze has customers in more than a dozen countries on 3 continents, and partners with internationally-acclaimed corporates such as Microsoft, NTT, SAP, and others.

C2C-NewCap

C2C-NewCap is a Portuguese startup offering an environmentally-friendly and more reliable energy storage system. Their proprietary supercapacitor, GO-START, is coupled with a Li-ion battery to replace the lead-acid batteries typically used in trucks for engine cranking. Other developments include supercapacitors for mid frequency and high temperature operation for electronics application and stationary storage with two large demo sites being prepared in Porto and in an island in Azores. 

Codee

Codee is an innovative software development platform specialised in automated code inspection that provides a tailor-made solution for optimising the performance of C/C++/Fortran applications. Through a systematic and predictable approach, and leveraging the knowledge compiled in Codee’s Open Catalog of Best Practices for Performance, Codee enables developers to improve the performance of their source code to achieve maximum efficiency.

Eco Wave Power

Eco Wave Power (Nasdaq: WAVE) is a leading onshore wave energy company that developed smart, cost-efficient and eco-friendly technology for turning waves into green electricity. The company is operating its grid-connected wave power station in Israel, and will soon install its pilot in AltaSea’s premises in the Port of LA. The company has a total project pipeline of 404.7MW and received funding from the European Union, Innovate UK, the European Commission’s Horizon 2020, and the “Global Climate Action Award” from the UN. 

Enerpoly

Enerpoly’s zinc-ion battery technology solves the battery industry’s two biggest challenges: cost and supply chain. By using low-cost, abundant materials and combining with proprietary innovation to achieve stellar battery performance, Enerpoly offers a more affordable battery, sourced locally, and with greater sustainability. Enerpoly’s batteries are suitable for medium to long-duration stationary energy storage solutions. 

Heatventors

Intelligent Thermal Battery by Heatventors is an environment friendly energy storage with high energy density, has a long service life, which can be used to save energy in heating and cooling systems, ensure a continuous supply of thermal energy and reduce failure of energy producers. It works with phase change materials and can store energy between -30 and +120 °C for a long time. The technology enables energy to be stored at a given temperature, thus ensuring predictable energy supply. 

Innowaste

Innowaste is a renewable energy company with a patented technology, providing an alternative solution for turning urban wastewater sludge into pellet as a registered, solid recovered fuel (SRF) with a significant cost advantage for small and mediumsized wastewater treatment plants. The company has developed a TÜV-Rheinland certified automated machinery for drying and pelletizing urban wastewater sludge locally, without external need of fossil fuel or any other additional material, except for minimal power electric demand.

Neuron Soundware

Neuron Soundware offers AI & ML-based process monitoring and supervision technology, analysing machine sound and physical parameters in real-time. Their solution is versatile, capable of working with all machines regardless of their motion characteristics, including those without movable parts, and it provides single or multiple equipment control. It includes IoT hardware, web-based analysis, seamless integration, 24/7 remote access, rapid data processing, and effortless scalability. 

NoviOcean

NoviOcean develops a revolutionary 1 MW Hybrid Wave, Wind & Solar Energy Converter. 1 MW in first iteration, later 2+ MW. 

Their unit can be co-located with floating offshore wind, thereby more than doubling the output per sq. km. sea area, as well as delivering a more stable delivery, thereby reducing the need for onshore storage. Also available as solo arrays where visual obstruction is a factor. 

Their unit consists of a large 38 x 9 x 4/12-meter unit, lifting 600 tons in waves of three meters, converting that energy via a water filled hydraulic cylinder to an upside down well proven hydro power plant, then delivering energy to shore via a subsea cable. This part rated at 650 kW.  

On top of the float, they offer 300 kW of wind power plus 50 kW of PV panels as customer options. 

PowerUP Energy Technologies

PowerUP’s hydrogen fuel cell generators, using proton exchange membrane technology, provide eco-friendly, efficient power generation. These lightweight fuel cell generators emit zero CO2 emissions and are reliable in harsh weather conditions, need minimal maintenance and are corrosion resistant. Diesel generators cannot be used indoors, have regulatory constraints, are high maintenance, are nondurable, and cause environmental harm.  

QLayers

Qlayers’ core technology, a patented spray shielding system, integrates seamlessly with different actuation systems, enabling (semi-)automated coating with virtually no overspray. The design facilitates high-speed, accurate, and efficient application (coating speed can reach up to 200m2/h) with a transfer efficiency of up to 90%. This minimizes maintenance periods, costs, and environmental impact by extracting chemical paint fumes. 

SEaB Power

SEaB Power Ltd is a UK company and the market leader for onsite organic waste solutions. 

SEaB products provide onsite solution for organic waste, converting it to green energy, water and compost. 

Now Flexibuster™ and Muckbuster®, post Horizon 2020 grant, are double the efficiency in the same compact footprint. The systems integrate to urban, suburban and off-grid sites, and include integrated depackaging, energy generation and fertiliser dewatering. Installed in UK, EU, USA for corporates & farms. 

Spacewell

Serving more than 10.000 organisations across +35 countries, Spacewell Energy (Dexma) is a leading Energy Management Software for commercial and industrial buildings. 

The Platform Spacewell Energy (Dexma) is a cloud-based AI software that combines Big Data Analytics with Energy Efficiency to help thousands of facility managers, energy auditors and building owners around the world to detect, analyse and optimise energy consumption and costs, while becoming more sustainable. 

The company was founded in 2007 in Barcelona, and operates with a Global Partner Network of +150 Energy Services Companies (ESCOs), Utilities and Integrators. Since 2020, Dexma is part of Spacewell | A Nemetschek Group Company. 

Teraloop

Teraloop’s product is a kinetic energy storage system to manage power for grid stabilisation, energy saving and industries protection to protect against fluctuations or to provide sudden power on demand. 

The storage component is an innovative flywheel whose rotor is both hubless and sited outside the stator using permanent magnets and controlled by electromagnets. 

This configuration permits reduced use of materials and higher energy storage capability than other flywheels. The physical footprint is as low as 1MW/sq.m. 

WindCapture Technologies

WindCapture Technologies is an Irish startup using the world’s largest air process machines to capture vastly more carbon than existing solutions. They have developed a wind turbine blade with an integrated solid-sorbent carbon capture mechanism that converts the turbine into a high-yield carbon capture machine. Retrofitting and leveraging the massive scale of existing older turbines, they have a viable pathway to sub $100 per tonne capture costs, a class leading price point.

Its goal is to allow every citizen, public official, professional, and businessperson to discover the outputs of EU innovation funding and give them a chance to seek out innovators who could follow in the footsteps of companies such as Skype, TomTom, ARM Holdings, all of whom received EU funding in their early days.
