Winners of the EU’s Innovation Radar Prize 2022 announced

The European Commission awarded prizes to Europe’s most promising innovations that have emerged from EU-funded research and innovation projects.



Nvision Imaging Technologies (Germany)

NVision, a quantum tech company founded by world-leading spin-physics experts, has developed a hyperpolarisation platform which enhances the MRI signal of natural metabolites, enabling these safe molecules to be used as agents for imaging tumour metabolism via standard MRIs. This safe imaging technology will provide oncologists unprecedented early insights into treatment efficacy at the metabolic level, allowing non-responders to be moved onto another line of therapy more quickly. This year, in addition to the overall Prize, awards were attributed to these three categories:

  • ‘Purpose-Driven & Green’ for innovations that strive for more an environmentally sustainable future,
  • ‘Disruptive Health’ for innovations in life science and medical fields, and
  • ‘Kickstarter’ for applied research in universities and research centres that is already demonstrating considerable market promise. 

From over 300 applicants, a longlist was put to a public vote which resulted in a shortlist of 12 finalists. The 12 finalists for the three categories pitched in front of the Jury panel comprised of investors at an online event co-organised by the consortium on 15 November 2022. The overall Innovation Radar Prize Winner will be featured in special Euronews broadcast later this year.



Svelte (Romania)

Svelte designs, develops and manufactures cutting-edge solutions for producing topologically optimised construction elements and freeform architectural surfaces 40 times faster than the methods used today.  In the architecture field, the use of this technology can reduce the cost of a design building by up to 60%, while in construction it can improve the weight-to-height ratio of buildings by 40%, generating lighter structures by eliminating excess materials that do not have a structural purpose. The EU provides funding to this innovator via the Svelte project. Website:





Healthentia is a certified clinical solution in the form of a smartphone app for patients and a clinical dashboard for clinicians. Healthentia supports care plans and digital pathways that outperform traditional treatments, with recorded technical & clinical evidence. Healthentia was enriched in terms of innovative features and clinical studies through its participation in several EU funded projects, such as iHELP, RE-SAMPLE, TERMINET, INFINITECH, BEAMER and has set the ground to disrupt healthcare with a significant impact on patients’ health and health economics. Website:




Polytechnic University of Madrid  (Spain)

A thermophotovoltaic battery that stores surplus renewable generation and produces combined heat and electricity on demand. The value proposition is the supply of a very cheap system capable of storing large amounts of energy for long periods, which has high energy density, high global efficiency and uses abundant and low-cost materials. Polytechnic University of Madrid received EU funding for this innovation via the AMADEUS and NATHALIE projects. Website:

The Innovation Radar is a European Commission initiative to identify high potential innovations and innovators in EU-funded research and innovation projects. Its goal is to allow every citizen, public official, professional and businessperson to discover the outputs of EU innovation funding and give them a chance to seek out innovators who could follow in the footsteps of companies such as Skype, TomTom, ARM Holdings, all of whom received EU funding in their early days.
